Sea Life Sees Death

Plastic waste, salvaged foam core, salvaged frame, wire

To create this piece, l used different soldering iron tips to "carve" the plastic with shapes and patterns inspired by various sea life from staghorn and brain coral to sand dollars, to plankton and diatoms, the unicellular marine organisms that provide 20 to 50 percent of the oxygen produced on the planet each year, and form the base of the marine food web. Marine life is threatened by rising sea temperatures, pollution, and other human-originated threats. If these tiny organisms die off, the entire food chain will collapse.
